Learn key Sleep Skills to overcome insomnia and future proof quality sleep - World Sleep Day 2026: Sleep Well, Live Better
World Sleep Day 2026 - 13th March 2026 - Website for World Sleep Day
What are some of the key things you want to learn, first of all, to overcome your long-term insomnia and sleep problems, but also then to future-proof the great quality sleep that you can have for the rest of your life?
In today’s video we explore this question in relation to World Sleep Day, hosted each year by the World Sleep Society. I've been a Delegate for the 9th year running and it's always a great opportunity to come together as a global community.
The theme this year is Sleep Well, Live Better, which highlights how overcoming long-term sleep problems and insomnia and improving sleep can support your overall health, wellbeing and quality of life.

World Sleep Day key message one: sleep is essential to health
Sleep is one of the core pillars of wellbeing alongside nutrition and physical activity. But when you struggle with insomnia, constantly reading headlines about the dangers of poor sleep can actually increase worry and overthinking at night. The practical approach is to focus on practical steps that help your body and mind relax rather than creating more pressure around sleep.
World Sleep Day key message two: sleep health is multidimensional.
Healthy sleep is not only about getting enough hours. It includes several dimensions such as sleep duration, sleep quality, regular sleep timing, sleep efficiency, daytime alertness and overall satisfaction with your sleep. Looking at sleep from a broader perspective helps you understand where improvements are needed rather than focusing on just one aspect of sleep.
World Sleep Day key message three: make a plan to prioritise your sleep health.
There is no single method that works for everyone. Your sleep challenges are unique to you, which is why it is important to look at your individual sleep patterns, lifestyle and personality traits when finding solutions that actually work.
If you would like support with your situation, you can also arrange a sleep assessment appointment where we can explore your sleep challenges in more detail and discuss how sleep coaching may help you overcome them.
Thank you for celebrating World Sleep Day with me.
