How to come off prescribed sleep medication if you struggle with insomnia or sleep problems?

I have more and more enquiries from clients to find out how to come off sleep medication. 

Unfortunately, sleep medication is often the first thing that is recommended for long-term insomnia and sleep problems. Whilst there is absolutely nothing wrong with taking prescribed sleep medication, more headlines are suggesting that long term use might night be very beneficial. 

Personally, I’m not a prescribing practitioner, which means that most clients already have used sleep medication even before they start working with me. So it will be something that it is still part of their life or it was something that they have used before. 

No matter what the situation, considering coming off sleep medication that has been prescribed to you is a bit of a complex conversation. Every client I’ve worked with who wanted to come off prescribed sleep medication was in a different place, so it's important not to jump into a decision without consulting a practitioner who is knowledgable about how sleep medication works.

So if you want to learn how to come off sleeping pills or other sleep medication that has been prescribed to you, my advice is always to speak to someone first about it. That way you can really consider all the different options you have to stop taking sleeping tablets or other sleep related medication. 

Coming off sleeping pill can be a big or smaller part of learning how to cure insomnia or simply overcoming your insomnia or sleep problems. Depending on your situation learning how to overcome insomnia naturally is going to have to include your previous history and what other things you might struggle with. 

So sleeping pills or tablets are naturally only part of the picture that I look at when clients want to come off prescribed sleep medication.

Coming off prescribed sleep medication is possible, but please make sure that you consider all the things I mentioned in today’s video. This way you can set yourself up to be successful and really overcome your long-term insomnia or sleep problems for many years to come.
