Group CBT for chronic insomnia didn’t work for you - 3 reasons why
Group CBT for chronic insomnia didn’t work for you - 3 reasons why
Cognitive Behavioural Therapy for Insomnia or CBT-I is the most strongly recommended treatment. While in many cases it helps people to fully overcome their long-term insomnia or sleep problems, I’ve seen other cases where the CBT-I approach hasn’t delivered consistent results.
In today's video, we’ll talk about the main reasons why CBTi might not have worked for you. This will be a bit of a controversial video, but I feel that it's really important to talk about it so that it can help you decide what to do differently moving forward.
The rise of CBT online courses and group programmes has shifted the way people like you access help and support for their long-term insomnia. On its own this isn't necessarily a bad thing. But I’ve seen how these 3 main things can majorly influence your success rate and the practical outcome of your work.
When CBT-I is not working, we have to ask a few questions. It’s often not about the Cognitive Behavioural approach that is the issue, but most of the time it's either about the support system within the programme or the extent of the content that the practitioner covers that can limit the results you achieve.
Of course, my video today is about the general things I see in my practice or hear from clients. There are many great programmes out there so I’m not talking about anyone in particular. The reasons why CBT-I haven’t worked for you might simply be that you had an underlying medical condition, so the behavioural approach is not appropriate anyway.
In my sleep coaching practice, I work with behavioural change in many ways and it's a completely effective way to retrain your body and your mind to learn Sleep Skills so you can overcome your long-term insomnia and sleep problems.
