Why Sleep Hygiene Isn't Enough to Overcome Sleep Problems or insomnia in Your 40s and 50s
If you've been working on your sleep hygiene but you're still struggling with long-term insomnia or sleep problems, this video is for you.
Sleep hygiene is often the first thing you're encouraged to improve.
You might already have a comfortable bedroom, avoid caffeine in the evening, reduce screen time before bed and follow a regular bedtime routine. These are all valuable parts of sleep hygiene for insomnia, but if you're still struggling with sleep problems, you've probably realised they aren't enough to fully overcome your sleep problems.
In today's video, we look at why sleep hygiene isn't enough and what you need to consider next. Over the last 12 years, I've worked with people experiencing chronic insomnia and sleep problems, and one thing has become very clear.
General sleep hygiene advice provides a useful foundation, but it rarely addresses the unique reasons why you struggle to sleep.
If you're more of what I describe as a thinker type person, where the activity of your mind plays a bigger role in your sleep problems, you'll often need more than the best sleep environment or the perfect bedtime routine for adults. You'll need practical strategies that support your body, your emotions and your mind together.
Rather than collecting more sleep tips, this video will help you identify the gaps in your current approach and begin developing practical Sleep Skills for Life. When you understand your own sleep patterns, behaviours and personality traits, you can start building a personalised approach that helps you overcome insomnia naturally instead of relying on general advice alone.
In the full video, I share practical ways to move beyond generic insomnia tips or advice.
If you're looking for insomnia help, sleep coaching, or support to overcome sleep problems, feel free to get in touch or arrange a sleep assessment.
